In our quest to promote road safety and encourage a higher uptake of professional qualifications* within the logistics sector, we hear from Rachael Scanlin-Davis FCILT, Director, Transport Training Academy on what it means for her and the business...
Here at Transport Training Academy, we are always excited to broaden our horizons and ensure that our learners have the very best training, delivered by knowledgeable, professional and competent instructors. It has long since been known in the transport and logistics industry, that vocational licence training for LGV can be delivered by someone who holds no formal qualification, other than having held their own LGV licence for at least 3 years. We have always embraced voluntary registers for LGV instructors, as we believe that only current, accurate and relevant information, advice and guidance should be provided to a learner. It is also important to instruct in accordance with the DVSA’s high standards when teaching learners to gain a vocational driving licence.
Professional drivers are paid a professional wage for a reason, it is vital from their very inception into the industry that only the correct methods are taught.
Julie Kirkham (pictured right), Head of Driver Development at Transport Training Academy added “holding an instructor qualification, allows the learner to put trust and faith not only in their instructor but also in their learning journey. As a qualified logistics instructor, I am always keen to keep myself relevant, informed and current. As an instructor it also allows me to have trust and faith in my instructional ability in order to pass on good practice. Our commitment to improving and driving forward road safety and increasing awareness is always at the forefront of everything we do here at our driving school. Having a standardised approach, gives a learner a firm footing to begin their career and enables them to reflect on methodology to help them to safely navigate the road system and infrastructure, whilst strengthening their skills”.
We are so excited to embark on this new journey with VTCT Skills for Logistics as they launch a new DVSA Recognised Register of Logistics Instructors as one of their first Approved Examination Centres. We are delighted to join VTCT Skills for Logistics in their quest to promote road safety and encourage a higher uptake of professional qualifications within the logistics sector.
